Welcome to Episode 9 of The Perrysburg Podcast.  This is an informational podcast for prospective, new, and current Perrysburg, OH residents.  We talk about what’s in Perrysburg and why people like to live here. Today, we’re talking about the O-Deer Diner and the Friday evening car shows in the Commodore Schoolyard.

If you’re a prospective Perrysburg resident (looking to move here) or a new Perrysburg resident, and you haven’t heard of either the O-Deer Diner or the Friday evening car shows yet, you can see what I’m talking about if you go to the O-Deer Diner’s Facebook Page.  The owners of the O-Deer Diner organize them.  Thanks for all you do, Rick and Dana Ruffner!  And, thank you, Rick for all the details about the car show!

The O-Deer Diner is located at 416 Louisiana Ave in Perrysburg, OH, and the Car Show is right across the street from the Diner in the “The Commodore Schoolyard.”  If you look at a Map of Perrysburg, the Commodore School Yard is at the corner of Louisiana Avenue and Indiana Avenue in historic, downtown Perrysburg.  There’s plenty of spectator parking nearby.

The last 4 car shows of 2023 are

    1. September 22, 5-7 PM
    2. September 29, 5-7 PM
    3. October 6, 5-7 PM
    4. October 13, 5-7 PM

Features of the October 13 car show include cider and donuts for the drivers and pumpkins for attendees who bring a canned good for PCU (Perrysburg Christians United Food Pantry).

The car show returns the first Friday in May 2024.  Spring and summer hours are 6-8 PM.

Did you find this information in the off-season?  Visit the O-Deer Diner’s Facebook Page to see pictures and videos from previous shows.

Haven’t been to the O-Deer Diner yet?  Stop by and try a hot dog and an ice cream treat when you’re in town!

Car show facts

  • 350-600 cars participate each week
  • It draws 1,000-2,000 visitors to Perrysburg each week
  • Drivers register at no cost.
  • The show is mostly cars (motorcycles are allowed).
  • Music is provided by Ray Frick.  Look for the truck featuring the Fricker’s Restaurant signage.
  • There’s a door prize raffle for drivers.  One ticket per driver puts them in the running for hundreds of dollars of gift cards from Perrysburg restaurants and businesses.
  • There’s a “Driver’s Pool” Drawing.  Each driver contributes $1, and the winner takes all.
  • There’s also a 50/50 drawing for all drivers and car show visitors. Half goes to the winner, but the other half goes to the Perrysburg High School After Prom.
  • If the car show is cancelled due to poor weather conditions, there are three places to get the information:  Look at the O-Deer Diner’s Facebook Page; call the O-Deer Diner; or check http://www.cruisinzeake.com/.

I heard a rumor that many car show participants drive past Kingston Residence (skilled nursing care facility) on the East Side of Perrysburg on their way home. Sounds like a sweet ending!
